Developing Nations Kit

Blueline Power has developed a solar electric kit for relief workers and families in the developing world. It is easy to set up and maintain, and transport. The places where electricity is most needed are usually off the beaten path, and a solar system that fits in a suitcase and deploys in a day can meet the needs of the rural poor and aid workers perfectly.

Lack of electricity is a critical barrier keeping the poor in poverty. By supplying NGOs and development agencies, Blueline Power and the Developing Nations Kit hope to break that barrier wherever possible.

Pilot Project
Blueline Power installed the first DNK in 2009 in an orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. After the earthquake, the DNK was the only reliable power supply in the neighborhood. It became a local hub of the recovery effort, as locals came to the orphanage to charge cell phones and operate laptops used to find one another and coordinate recovery efforts.

Blueline is now seeking to expand this pilot project, cooperating with Imagine This! TV and local Haitians to power the new orphanage in Grassier (a few miles outside of Port-au-Prince) as well as local churches, clinics, and other community centers. This pilot project can provide useful field information, success examples, and contribute to the electrification of the developing world.
